Episodes

Season 1, Episode 1: In this episode I introduce the Black HERstory 101 podcast, tell you a little bit about myself and provide you with an overview of the podcast. I also discuss the meaning behind “Inside the Circle” which is the Season 1 theme!

Season 1, Episode 2: In this episode, your host, the Professor, Dr. Crystal Moten discusses Dr. Margaret Burroughs, who lived from 1917 until 2010. Dr. Burroughs is well known in Chicago and in the museum sector for helping to found what is now known as the DuSable Museum of African American History.

Season 1: Episode 3: In this episode I discuss one of my favorite acapella women’s groups, Sweet Honey in the Rock. I talk about the origins of the group; two of their members, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and Dr. Ysaye Barnwell; and why I consider their music to be a window into Black women’s impact on struggles for Black freedom and justice. In the episode, portions of Wanting Memories and Ella’s Song are played, with permission, and you can find them where you purchase or stream music.
